Alain de Botton On Sex

Are you guilty of worrying about your sex life? Or have you ever been a bit obsessed by sex? Have you ever wondered what it is that actually makes a certain situation or someone so sexy? Or why some things are a massive turn off?

It gives us that vital psychological, philosophical, lesson to remind us not to take ourselves too seriously.

Frank and humorous as ever, Alain de Botton explores our approach to sex in today’s society. From what makes us so attracted, psychologically and physically, to certain people, to why we are not all turned on by the same person; from keeping that fire burning in a relationship and finding ways to have more intimacy, to cutting back and avoiding ways in which sex can become damaging to our lifestyles and psyche.

The problem with sex is that we often use it not to think about stuff that is quite painful. Sex comes along and fills a vacuum.

Alain concludes by calling for more censorship and repression in society to curb everything from becoming too overtly sexualised. What do you think about this? Do you think society has become too obsessed with sex? Can we avoid sex and thinking about it? Or maybe more importantly, should we?
